Statement on Supreme Court Decision Affirming the Right of Guantanamo Detainees to Appeal to Civilian CourtsU.S. Representative Tom Allen issued the statement below in response to the Supreme Court decision affirming the right of Guantanamo detainees to appeal to civilian courts.

"Once again, the Supreme Court has given a stern rebuke to another attempt by the Bush Administration to trample fundamental civil liberties protected by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The right to judicial review of incarceration has its roots in the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215. This decision echoes the call I made last year to close the Guantanamo prison and transfer the detainees to secure military facilities in the U.S. It also reaffirms that America is a nation governed by law and that no one, not even the President, is above the law."
